Skincare
When it comes to anti-ageing skincare, there are many general tips to keep in mind.
Use a gentle facial cleanser
As we get older, our skin starts to lose oil and becomes increasingly sensitive. Use a gentle face wash, even if you do suffer from breakouts.
Harsh formulas can dry out the skin, leading to an older appearance. Also, remember to use soft circular motions when cleaning your face and avoid harsh tugging that could form additional wrinkles.
Use serums and creams with retinol
Retinol is an extremely potent form of vitamin A, which is the best line of defence for decreasing collagen production.
Over time, retinol will help to smooth creases and wrinkles on your face and neck.
Use more + stronger SPF if you weren’t doing so already
Protecting our skin from the sun is absolutely vital if you want to prevent age spots or patches of discolouration. You should use 30 SPF, at the very least.
Proper sun creams do not contain alcohol, as it can dry out your skin. Always read the label to ensure the cream blocks the sun, but it is also moisturising.
Update your diet
Our appearance is sometimes a direct reflection of what is going on inside our bodies. Therefore, it is important to have a diet full of skin-enriching foods with lots of protein and vitamins.
Cut down on unhealthy foods and drinks, especially those that dehydrate the skin, like alcohol.
Exfoliate once a week, at the most
Our skin is always shedding dead cells, but sometimes, they can get stuck on the surface, leading to dry and dull patches. These patches, in turn, can make us appear older than we are since our skin does not look as luminous.
Exfoliating weekly eliminates these extra cells for a brighter, younger complexion. But, if you are exfoliating more often than that, you could be causing more damage than you realise. Too much exfoliation irritates the skin and can speed up the ageing process.
Use products with good quality ingredients
At Anew Clinics, we use NEOSTRATA® products created by a dermatologist and driven by science. These highly active ingredients have a positive impact on the skin, producing excellent results.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or AHAs, are exfoliating acids usually found in all-natural ingredients. They work to scrub away dead skin cells on the surface to allow the new, healthier skin to shine through. Not only do AHAs exfoliate the skin’s surface, but they help to smooth out the skin for a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
Some naturally occurring AHAs include:
- Mandelic acid.
- Glycolic acid.
- Citric acid.
Mandelic acid occurs naturally in almonds and reduces shine and oils in the skin.
Glycolic acid is refined from sugar cane and helps to smooth out the surface of the skin while reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines.
Citric acid is an AHA and a Beta Hydroxy Acid, or BHA, which is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in citrus fruits. It helps to reduce freckles and dark spots caused by sun damage while also making your skin appear younger and more vibrant.
Polyhydroxy acids, or PHAs, include bionic acid and gluconolactone, which exfoliate and rehydrate sensitive skin. PHAs are excellent for those whose skin is extra delicate, and the antioxidant properties protect the skin from sun damage while reducing and restoring the skin from previous sun damage.
Gluconolactone strengthens the skin’s natural moisture barrier while providing anti-ageing benefits to make the skin feel smoother and look younger.
Bionic acids, including lactobionic and maltobionic acids, are all-natural and help reduce the appearance of large pores and wrinkles. They also help to protect the skin’s natural moisture barrier and are extremely gentle exfoliants.
Retinol
Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A, which helps smooth out the texture and appearance of the skin, including fine lines and dark spots.
Other ingredients
Other key ingredients found in NEOSTRATA® products include Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Negoglucosamine, and Aminofil. Each of these ingredients is specially formulated to reduce or even eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, rejuvenate the skin, smooth out texture and tone, and protect the skin against new photodamage.
NEOSTRATA® is dedicated to helping people rediscover their youthful, joyful skin again and protect against the harmful effects of the sun. The high concentration of these essential ingredients in NEOSTRATA® skin care products helps to promote changes you can truly see and feel.
